Padma Shri, the 4th Highest civilian award in India was given to Virat Kohli by President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday.

In all three formats, Virat captains India after Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down as cricketer of the limited – overs side. The prolific skipper is considered as one of the most feared batsmen in Cricket right now.

Kohli also expressed his gratitude on his social media accounts, saying “What an absolute honor and a memorable day to receive the Padma Shri award from the President of India. These days last a lifetime. God’s been kind. Jai Hind.”

Other seven Rio Olympics heroes who were also nominated along with Kohli are Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar, Paralypian Mariyappan Thangavelu and Deepa Malik, PR Sreejest, Vikas Gowda and Shekhar Naik.
